The debate over a national health care system comes to Chattanooga on Nov. 2 with a presentation by Art Sutherland, M.D., state coordinator of the Tennessee Chapter of Physicians for a National Health Program.

Dr. Sutherland poses the question, “How do we achieve health care justice in America?” He believes the current, profit-driven private health insurance system fails to contain costs or provide equitable health care for all Americans. As part of PNHP, he advocates to replace the Affordable Care Act with improved Medicare for all.

The presentation, “How do we achieve health care justice in America?”, will be held Thursday, Nov. 2, from 6-8 p.m. at Pilgrim Congregational Church, 400 Glenwood Dr.  The event is free and open to the public.

This event is sponsored by the Hamilton County Democratic Party and the Greater Chattanooga Democratic Women's Club.

Art Sutherland, M.D., is a retired physician, founder of the Sutherland Cardiology Clinic, and founder and director of the Methodist Healthcare Cardiac Laboratories. He practiced cardiology in Memphis for 33 years. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease and a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.

Currently, Dr. Sutherland works with Healthy Memphis Common Table as an advocate for health equity initiatives. As a member of the Memphis School of Servant Leadership, he co-facilitates a course in social justice. He received the Dr. Quentin Young Health Activist Award from PNHP in 2013 and serves on the PNHP national board of directors.

Why Can't Someone Unstop The Water Buildup Problem At The I-24 Cummings Highway Exit? - And Response

Exit 174 on westbound Interstate 24 is closed again as is the westbound entrance ramp. Cummings Highway is shut as well. I inquired at TDOT on Dec. 28, 2015, why this continues to happen. The engineer’s response was that the drain from ground west of the interstate runs under private land and cover over it has caused that pipe to collapse. Obviously flow still goes through, ... Roy Exum: ‘We’ll Lose The Senate!’

A guy who I admire and respect wrote me yesterday. He had just read my story defending Bob Corker for honoring “The Code” due to his true friendship with Phil Bredesen. He is also no stranger to my vivid dislike of the Republican choice to replace Corker in the Senate. Marsha Blackburn is no match against Bredesen on any tier and it is clearly the Republican Party itself that has ... (click for more)
