Dora Maclellan Brown Ministry Scholarships To Be Awarded For The 45th Year

Tuesday, November 14, 2017

The Generosity Trust will award more than $100,000 in Dora Maclellan Brown Ministry Scholarships in 2018. The scholarships are named in memory of the late Mrs. Brown, daughter of the founder of Provident Life & Accident Insurance Company (now Unum). Mrs. Brown had no children of her own, but helped educate students until her death in 1974. Using her legacy, the foundation since 1972 has helped more than 500 women and men prepare for leadership in Christian ministry, officials said.

The first Dora Maclellan Brown Scholar was Dr. Timothy George, a native Chattanoogan who is the founding dean of Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham.

Dora Maclellan Brown Ministry Scholarships are available to men and women from the Chattanooga area who are biblically conservative and are seeking a master’s degree at a theological seminary or other graduate school approved by the foundation. Scholarships are based on merit and need for the duration of the degree program, usually two to four years.

The application deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 15, 2018. A committee will interview finalists, the awards will be announced in April, and grants will begin in the summer.

For more information, email or call Henry Henegar or Jennifer Sheffield at henry@thegenerositytrust.org or 423-266-5257. The guidelines and application are posted at www.thegenerositytrust.org.

Why Can't Someone Unstop The Water Buildup Problem At The I-24 Cummings Highway Exit? - And Response

Exit 174 on westbound Interstate 24 is closed again as is the westbound entrance ramp. Cummings Highway is shut as well. I inquired at TDOT on Dec. 28, 2015, why this continues to happen. The engineer’s response was that the drain from ground west of the interstate runs under private land and cover over it has caused that pipe to collapse. Obviously flow still goes through, ... Roy Exum: ‘We’ll Lose The Senate!’

A guy who I admire and respect wrote me yesterday. He had just read my story defending Bob Corker for honoring “The Code” due to his true friendship with Phil Bredesen. He is also no stranger to my vivid dislike of the Republican choice to replace Corker in the Senate. Marsha Blackburn is no match against Bredesen on any tier and it is clearly the Republican Party itself that has ... (click for more)
