UTC Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw At Tennessee Tech In Preseason Exhibition

The UTC women’s soccer team earned a 1-1 draw at Tennessee Tech Friday night in a preseason scrimmage in Cookeville, Tenn.

 

Freshman Chloe Arnold (Bristol, Tenn.) scored the Mocs’ lone goal, tying the match 1-1 in the 54th minute.

She stole a pass from the Golden Eagles and beat the keeper, dribbling the ball around her in the box.

 

Chattanooga was outshot 11-8 by TTU with Arnold, sophomore Catherine Meyer (Hendersonville, Tenn.), sophomore Jordan Mueller (Hendersonville, Tenn.) and senior Emily Moseley (Nashville, Tenn.) each taking two. Both of Arnold’s shots were on goal with Mueller and Moseley getting one each.

 

Sophomore Melia Correa (Clarksville, Tenn.) got the start in goal for Chattanooga. She made four saves on seven shots in the first half with one goal against. Sophomore Bailey Coppedge (Collierville, Tenn.) saw just four shots come her way and made three saves.

 

Mayra Manzanal scored the Golden Eagles’ goal on a header off a free kick by Karigan Owens. Kari Naerdemann played all 90 minutes in the net for TTU, making three saves. TTU had six corner kicks to none for Chattanooga.

 

Since it was a preseason scrimmage, no overtime was played.

 

Chattanooga will travel to Belmont for a Sunday late afternoon matchup in Nashville.



Mocs Volleyball Sweeps UNCG For First SoCon Win

After falling in back-to-back matches at home for the first time since 2014, the Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team rebounded with a convincing 3-0 (25-23, 28-26, 25-18) sweep over UNCG in Maclellan Gymnasium  on Saturday  night.   Following the win, Chattanooga improves to 8-8 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon this season while UNCG falls to 8-6, 1-1 in the conference. ... 3 Separate Shootings Early Sunday Morning Leave 1 Critically Injured, Another In Serious Condition

Chattanooga Police responded to three shootings, early Sunday morning. Jelani Sorrell, 33, was injured in the first shooting.  Chattanooga Police officers responded at 1:26 a.m. to a person shot at the 400 block of Central Drive at  the Sky Zoo Night Club.  Upon arrival they were able to locate Sorrell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Prosecutor Calls For "Meaningful Punishment" For Dyer, Brennan In $4.9 Million Swindle

Federal prosecutor James Brooks is calling for a "meaningful sentence" for Doug Dyer and James Brennan, who are charged in a $4.9 million swindle.
