Local Steak n’ Shake Franchise To Raise Approximately $200,000 Toward New Children’s Hospital By 2020

Friday, August 4, 2017

Chattanooga-based Steak n’ Shake franchise, Debo’s Diners, is donating a portion of its sales every Tuesday toward the construction of a new Children’s Hospital at Erlanger in addition to providing restaurant guests an opportunity to round up their checks every day of the week as a contribution to the campaign. The Gunbarrel, Hixson, Dalton, Fort Oglethorpe and Cleveland locations are all participating in the fundraiser that is expected to generate between $150,000 and $200,000 by 2020.

“People before profit is more than just a tagline.” Debo’s Diners President Debbie Richman said. “We’ve seen first hand that putting people first is good for business and good for the community. We are excited to partner with Erlanger on this fundraiser that allows us to give back and positively impact families throughout the region. We hope the community will join us in supporting this important cause.”

Once completed, the new children’s hospital will serve more than 1 million children in four states, providing the highest level of care to patients in general pediatrics as well as 22 subspecialties. Phase 1 of construction is currently underway and Phase 2 is expected to be completed in 2020.

"Debo's Diners has been family owned for more than 20 years, and we feel strongly about making people’s lives better whether they’re guests in our restaurants, Steak n’ Shake employees or members of the communities we serve.” Debo’s Diners Vice President Matt Richman said. “My daughter was born with a congenital heart defect, so we fully understand the impact something like that can have on a family and what it means to have peace of mind when your child receives care. All families deserve access to the latest technology and best physicians when their children need it most. We’re excited to be a part of making that happen for our friends and neighbors."

Erlanger Health System Chief Development Officer, Julie Taylor, said the hospital is delighted with the partnership and she encourages the community to dine at any of the participating Steak ‘n Shakes.

“Your contributions will directly benefit the Believe Campaign to build the new children’s hospital,” she said.
