UTC's Carr Run at NCAAs Ends in the Blood Round

Saturday, March 17, 2018
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Bryce Carr's run at the NCAA Championships ended tonight in the blood round at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.  Carr fell to Cornell's Max Dean in the final match of his career.

Carr was the aggressor early, with two takedowns in the first period.  He opened up a 4-2 lead after the first period, but could not put any more points on the board.

Dean rode him out in the second frame and scored an escape to start the third.
Carr got to Dean's legs twice in the final frame, but could not put away the takedown.  He gave up a takedown with 25 seconds left and could not escape.

The loss ends a strong run for the 12th seeded Carr.  After losing in the first round, he defeated three-straight opponents from the Big 10.

Carr's day started with a 3-1 win over Wisconsin's Ricky Robertson.  He was in on a single-leg twice during regulation, but the 11th-seeded Robertson fought off both shots.  Carr's third try was the winner, taking down Robertson in the first sudden victory of overtime.

His second match was against Rutgers' Nick Gravina, the 14th seed in the tournament.  Carr lost to Gravina by giving up a fall in the second sudden victory of overtime at this same point of last year's NCAA Championships.

Carr went up 2-1 with a takedown in the first period.  He extended that lead to 4-2 with another takedown in the second, adding a reversal and riding time in the final frame.

Carr was the first Moc in the blood round since Sean Boyle at 125 in 2015.  UTC's last All-American was Cody Cleveland who finished eighth at 141 in 2008.

Carr finishes with a 3-2 record at the NCAA's, moving his season mark to 29-7.  The 2018 Southern Conference Wrestler of the Year and two-time SoCon Champion finishes with a two-year career record of 55-13.  His .809 career winning percentage is the 10th highest in school history.

Randy Smith: Pucker Up Factor Doomed The Vols Against Florida

The Tennessee-Florida game last weekend was very, very tough to watch. I'm not alone because Vols' fans everywhere have spent the last 48 hours or so expressing their lament on social media. A  select few of them have called for the firing of Coach Jeremy Pruitt after just four games. I picked Tennessee to win because I actually thought they would play with enough emotion and ... Why I'm Voting Republican And So Should You

For much of my life, the commitment to the Democratic Party has puzzled me. I was raised to analyze both sides of issues and to make an intelligent decision based upon that information. The values of self-reliance, hard work, and individual liberty that I grew up with were the same American values that have made this country exceptional. As I have grown older, I have witnessed ... Roy Exum: UT’s Genius Stroke

If all goes as (very carefully) planned, the most dynamic president to be hired at the University of Tennessee since the legendary Andy Holt retired in 1970, will be ushered into office today by the university’s board of trustees. The selection of Randy Boyd to take over his ala mater is a genius stroke and certainly seems to solidify two of life’s greatest truths. The first ... (click for more)
