Dalton State's S.M. Lee Finishes 3rd At Prestigious Dogwood Invitational

Two-time Jack Nicklaus Award Winner S.M. Lee of Dalton State held the 36-hole lead at the 2018 Dogwood Invitational, but weekend rounds of (64-67) from the University of Virginia's Ashton Poole allowed Poole to pass Lee and hold on for the victory.

Lee finished with rounds of 69-64-70-68 for a 17-under 271, five strokes behind Poole, (69-66-64-67 = 266), in third. Duke's Chandler Eaton would fire a final round (65) to jump Lee and finish second.

A sophomore from Buford, Ga., Lee came into event ranked at the #95 amateur in the world according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings and will surely move up after his Top-5 finish is tabulated.


Next up for the two-time All-American is the 65th Sunnehanna Amateur on June 13-16 at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown, Pa. He will then participate in the 57th Northeast Amateur on June 20-23 at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, RI. From there, Lee take a week off before flying to Evian-les-Bains, France to represent Team USA in the Arnold Palmer Cup on July 6-8.

Authorities said a Hixson man shot and killed his 15-year-old son on Saturday night. A report says Mike McElrath, who was found naked at a neighbor's house, also killed the family dog.
