Lookout Valley Would Work Well For Publix

Thursday, June 7, 2018

Regarding the Publix meeting, I will be there Monday to agree with Planning Commission staff for denial of Publix idea in St Elmo. My attendance will be in spirit, I have to make a living, so I’ll be working.

I have an idea though, there’s two strip malls in Lookout Valley. Their anchor tenants left shortly after this big box store sucked their business away. But there’s a strong contingent of folks who want quality food that does not demand a trek across the asphalt tundra and then the refrigerated concrete to get the product they need inside that huge man made cave. They’d rather a tiny big box, only 45,000 square feet. We have two already made here and we won’t be semi-suburban snobs with the rules we inflict on you, we’ll welcome you. That said, I am a neighborhood aficionado, I crave the thoughtful design that lets folks enjoy where they live.  So let St Elmo keep their peace and move here, we will welcome you.

One other rule I’d just rather you stick to is this one, the one about towering signs. It was made in Chattanooga too, and now we are blessed with steel spires with illuminated logos atop that redwood trees could be shaded by. The reason is this term called variance, it is a way that developers get to do an end run around logic and rules to do what they deem necessary for the pursuit of the dollar.

So please come to Lookout Valley, our logic is well illustrated by strip malls that can live again. Any smart tag reader and highway traffic study will show you your market is here too, and likely better than St Elmo.

Thank you from Lookout Valley,
Prentice Hicks

Not Quite Human Anymore

Much like birds, some feel as thought they are part of a different evolutionary chain. This is a curse one would receive at birth almost like an itch that is impossible to scratch. It is an intrinsic part of one’s self and at all times undeniable probably best described as innate existential thought. In these troubled times of nihilistic and ravenous political discourse it simply ... (click for more)

Lookout Valley Needs Updated Football Field Restrooms, Not Tennis Courts - And Response

It has come to the attention of the parents and grandparents that there is an approved budget of $250,000 for new tennis courts at the Lookout Valley High and Middle School. Well, the problem is we might have five tennis players and while improvement is needed we do not see how they can get that for tennis courts when our football field is not accessible to the handicapped. ...
