Lee Women Roll Past Emmanuel 4-1

Wednesday, September 12, 2018
Mia Hollingsworth has certainly made the most of the first quarter of her senior season and Wednesday night was no different as she scored twice and delivered a pair of assists to lead the No. 21 Lee women's soccer team past Emmanuel College, 4-1.

The speedster from Libertyville, Ill. got the Lady Flames on the board as she found the back of the net off a beautiful pass from Riley Engels in the 12th minute.

After taking the 1-0 advantage into the halftime break Hollingsworth set up the second Lee score when she sprinted down the wing and found freshman Lauren Weimer who connected on her first collegiate goal at the 55:38 mark.

"I honestly thought the keeper was going to make the play but I just tried to continue my run into the box and Mia played me a beautiful ball and it was amazing to share that connection with her," said Weimer. "It feels great to get my first goal and I'm just really excited to get into conference play and fight for the championship."

Hollingsworth would double up in the second half as she raced past the defender and drilled a shot into the lower left corner underneath the reach of Lions keeper Hannah Welch in the 73rdminute.

Lindsay Lee got the Lions on the board in the 66th minute as she blasted a shot into the left corner of the net off a pass from Moriah Logue to make it 2-1. Emmanuel capitalized on a costly turnover by the Lee defensive back line.

The final strike came at the 81:44 mark from senior Lauren Peters who dribbled some 30 yards and juked the keeper to score her second goal of the season. Hollingsworth was credited with the assist to complete her eight-point performance.

"There's a lot of positives to take from this match, we got the result and scored some good goals and to be 3-1-1 after this tough schedule is very positive," said head coach Chris Hennessey. "It was important for us to get a lot players on the field tonight and give them valuable in-game experience who haven't played much this year but have worked so hard and done such a great job in training."

The Lady Flames dominated in every statistical category out shooting the Lions, 29-5 while putting 16 shots on frame. Lee earned eight corners and allowed Emmanuel just one.

Lee keeper Taylor Green earned the victory. The Lady Flame defense of Laila Dilts, Anna Lanter and Caitlin Dickson allowed just five shots the entire match.

Welch was tagged with the loss in goal for Emmanuel and registered 11 saves.

The win moves Lee to 3-1-1 on the year while the Lion suffer their first loss of the young season to fall to 2-1.

The Lady Flames will be back on the pitch on Sunday as they open up Gulf South Conference play with a trip to rival Shorter University at 1 p.m.

Roy Exum: Dumb Ain’t A Crime

As half of America wonders how a Texas school superintendent still has a job, the other half of the country now understands that being dumb is no crime. Minutes after the Houston Texans dropped a ugly 20-17 loss to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, an upset educator – obviously with a full head of steam -- pounded this sentence out on his Facebook page: “That may have been the most ...
